My Experience in Japan

Japan is one of the most fascinating countries I’ve ever visited, and every trip leaves me wanting to return.

What stands out most to me is the sense of order and calm. The streets are clean, trains are punctual, public spaces are quiet, and there are social norms that people genuinely respect. Even in cities filled with people and constant movement, Japan still feels peaceful.

It is also one of the safest places I have traveled as a woman on my own. I felt comfortable walking at night and using public transportation without constantly worrying about theft or crime. That peace of mind allowed me to relax and fully enjoy the experience. Japan can feel fast-paced and tranquil at the same time. That unique balance is why Japan remains one of my favorite countries to visit, and one I know I'll return to again.

Know Before You Go

Carry your passport with you. By law, foreign visitors are required to carry their passport.

Trash cans are surprisingly difficult to find. Carry a small bag for your trash until you find a bin at a convenience store or train station.

Don't use your phone or talk loudly on the trains. Public transportation is generally quiet, and phone calls are generally avoided while riding.

Many restaurants use ticket vending machines. At some ramen shops and casual restaurants, you’ll order and pay at a machine before you’re seated.

Your SUICA card is more than a train pass. Beyond trains, you can use your Suica card at convenience stores, many vending machines, restaurants, coin lockers, and even laundromats. It makes everyday purchases quick and easy, and you can even add it to your phone for even greater convenience.
